What do you need for creating a hologram?

To create a holographic image, Tribal 3D needs you to provide a 3D digital model. You can develop this model by scanning in a geospatial terrain map, digitizing an object or by using computer graphics or engineering software. Using the 3D digital model you provide, Tribal 3D can then create the hologram based on your preferences — size, orientation, color, rigidity, mounting, etc. Custom lighting and installation solutions are also available. In addition, we are constantly evolving our file support abilities, so if your format isn't listed below please do not hesitate to Contact Us.

For geospatial applications: The terrain data may already exist for the region of interest. Use a wide range of 3D data sources, including GeoTIFF digital elevation model (DEM) files, ortho-rectified images from various providers and 3D model formats, such as VRML, OpenFlight, OSG and IVE.
We commonly accept LIDAR and HDS laser scan survey formats like ‘.xyz’, ‘.las’, and Leica Cyclone ‘.pts’.

For AEC and other applications,we can work with a wide range of three-dimensional digital file formats, including ‘.obj’ exports from programs like 3ds Max, Maya, and SketchUp, and AVEVA Review. We also accept ‘.dwg’ exports from programs like Revit and AutoCAD.

How long does it take to make a hologram?
Standard turn-around times are typically about 10 business days after final graphics approval, but prints can be expedited upon request. For more information please do not hesitate to Contact Us.

How much does a hologram cost?
The cost of a Tribal 3D hologram primarily depends on the color, complexity and size. Color pricing begins at £1,500, and monochrome pricing begins at £700.

What are my options for mounting and displaying a hologram?
Tribal 3D holograms are typically laminated on a flat, lightweight surface, such as aluminum or plastic, which can in turn be mounted almost anywhere. Our holograms are “reflection” holograms, which require illumination from the front in order to create a three-dimensional effect. We have three formats: Horizontal- for displaying flat on a table, Incline- for display on an angled stand, or Vertical- for wall mounting. We recommend using a single light source, such as an LED flashlight or halogen lamp. Although they can be viewed in direct sunlight, holograms are best displayed indoors or at night with a single light source shining directly upon them. Tribal 3D can provide the appropriate lighting for your specific hologram.

What sizes are available?
Tribal 3D holograms come in multiple sizes up to A1 (24" x 36") . For single prints our standard sizes are 12x18,18x18,18x24, 24x24, and 24x36. We also have 8"x 10" gift copies available of your data in quantities of 4 or more. Larger, or "tiled" holograms may be available as a custom request.

What scale(s) of geospatial data can be used?
Geospatial data of even large expanses of terrain can be made into a hologram. Tribal 3D recommends selecting a scale appropriate to the intended use and natural depth of the terrain, and we can help you determine the optimal scale for your project. In general, terrain extents of about 2 km x 2 km or lower are recommended. Holograms can be tiled together to form images of any size, although tiled imagery larger than 10 feet will usually require special lighting.

What’s the best way to view a horizontal-mode hologram?
The output angle of a horizontal-mode Tribal 3D hologram is about 100°, so you can comfortably view these images within a cone of about 50° off the center axis. We recommend placing a horizontal-mode hologram on the floor and walking 360° around the image to view it.

Are holograms waterproof?
Yes, and they can even be viewed underwater as long as there is proper underwater illumination.

Can holograms be destroyed?
Although Tribal 3D holograms are durable and scratch resistant, they can be rendered unviewable by abrasion or shredding.
